Great Bass Mysteries Vol 2: The O Note Theory

Recently in an Ultimate Guitar forum user mrjimborinsane posted “Meeting up with my fuckbuddy later on… in the name of science, [I’m going to] sit her on my bass amp and play F# a lot on my bass and see if it gets her where she wants to go.” He would later go on to post such claims as “It would seem that the old F# worked”, “she ended up screaming in pleasure”, and the good old “So it would seem that she was getting off on the vibrations, but I don’t think it worked like it should have done exactly, it was probably more just like when they sit on washing machines.” Although these claims are wild, mrjimborinsane is not the first to claim of a musical note that can cause a female orgasm. Enter Craig Huxley, child actor and music producer. He had a guest role on the TV show Bewitched, played piano on Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”, and in the 70’s created The Blaster Beam. The Blaster Beam was an instrument capable of low bass tones. It’s most famous for being used in the 1979 Star Trek: The Motion Picture Soundtrack, and for being used at a 1990 Central Park concert in New York, where several women claimed to have orgasmed. Huxley backs up those claims by stating “Many women have thanked me for it”. Then there is the legendary and mythical “Speaker Orgasm”, where in 1985-disc jockey Howard Stern, allegedly got a female caller to squat over a speaker, made some weird noises into his microphone, and gave the caller an orgasm on-air. This of course was blown way over board in the 1997 film Private Parts. Still the question remains is it possible? David Jordan, author of a website called 33 Hertz and Sex claims a Project Q, a series of tests to determine if a specific audio frequency could cause orgasms in women, took place in the mid 1990’s and the magic number is 33 Hertz. Dr. Nikky Prause, leader in a recent study investigating the frequency and range of popular vibrators does not believe in Jordan’s 33 Hertz or in the O note. She believes the orgasm note might have a placebo like effect. “Tell people that this is the orgasm note, and the power of suggestion can be powerful”. Is the Orgasm Note real? To me this is one of the great bass mysteries
